Cambodia has experienced a significant surge in vehicle imports during the first quarter of 2025, reflecting an increase in demand for family cars among its citizens.
In the first quarter of this year, Cambodia imported $554 million worth of vehicles, up 51 percent from $366 million in the same period of last year, according to a report from the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia.
The escalating demand for personal vehicles was highlighted by Prime Minister Hun Manet during the inauguration ceremony of National Road 31, National Road 33, and National Road 41 in Takeo province late April.
“In recent years, the growth in the purchase of family cars by citizens has increased significantly,” the Premier said.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to developing the nation’s infrastructure to support this growth and overall socio-economic progress.
“The Royal Government has worked hard to develop transportation infrastructure and interconnectivity, transportation, and logistics systems to contribute to socio-economic development and tourism in Cambodia,” he said.
The increase in vehicle imports signals a growing affluence and changing lifestyle preferences among Cambodian families.
The report, however, did not detail the percentage of imported vehicles in either new cars or used cars.
